INNOVATION OF LAYERED QUILTING TECHNIQUES ON BOLEROS IN MAKING PARTY CLOTHES WITH REOG PONOROGO INSPIRATION

Fashion design innovation evolves in line with the public's need for aesthetic and meaningful products, through the combination of decorative techniques with local cultural elements. This article discusses the innovation of layered quilting techniques on boleros as a component of party wear inspired by the Reog Ponorogo. The research objectives are to analyze the integration of cultural elements into party wear, to outline the design process of a bolero with selective layered quilting of the Singa Barong motif, and to explain the construction of a four-component party wear based on the principles of aesthetics, symbolism, and textile innovation. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method through a literature review (2020–2025) and design documentation. The quilting technique was applied in two stages: two-layer quilting of the overall motif and additional quilting with thin batting on the forehead, eyes, and nose for a selective embossed effect. This approach enhances the visual character of Singa Barong, enhances the aesthetics of the fabric's surface, and creates a depth of texture and vibrant details. The application of layered quilting serves as a strategy for modern cultural interpretation, strengthening cultural identity, and increasing the competitiveness of fashion products. This innovation has the potential to be developed more broadly within the culture-based fashion industry, serving as a reference for designers to elevate traditional values in a creative and relevant manner.
